5.4 - Be able to monitor the preparation and conduct of a campaign
Thursday 6th January 2011 - 6/1/2011
Lessons 1-4
This was our introductory lesson to our new unit - Campaign. Firstly we were briefed about the outcomes of this project and the assignment brief and what exactly this whole unit is going to be about. After that we looked at what is the defenition of the word campaign and what it actually means and what it does. After this discussion we summaried that the word campaign means
" campaign’ refers to the practice of using media techniques and products to promote ideas and raise awareness of specific issues"
Then we had a quick vocal brainstorm of what are the different catotogaries of campaign and some examples of them. The first task was to create a detailed mindmap about what we have discussed so far and for each type we should state the artributes, examples and techniques used for the particular campaign
We did this as a group task, the people in my group were Sajan and Ryan and created our mindmap on a large piece of sugar paper. I thought that we all contributed very well and we each came up with good ideas and explanations for each one. One of the problems we faced was that in our brainstorm we could not anaylse in detail the pressure groups campaign. we overcame this problem by researching some basic information about this campaign to fill our our brainstorm
The next task was that each person in our group was to choose one of the campaigns from the brainstorm and analyse it in detail by answering aspects about the campaign. for instance: what is the main message of the campaingn? I chose commercial campaigns and in particular the Kelloggs Special K cereal campaign. I successfully managed to complete my research and i uploaded in onto my blogger. All there is left to do now is to film my research with everyone in my group being part of it
Monday 10th Jan 2011 - 10/1/2011
Lesson 5
In the beginnig of this lesson we had a quick group meeting with Mrs Saroya and wrote down things that needed to be done. Due to the reason that Chelsea was absent during our group discussion, so she had to catch up with her research. Also we needed to finish of our group brainstorm and photograph it ready to upload onto blogger. This task was given to Chelsea and Ryan meanwhile i had to go create a script for my video on chosen campaign.
Due to the fact that are group understood the instructions for the last lesson wrong, i had less than 15 minutes to do the cript. The thing that went well in that task was that i managed to allot speaking roles to every memeber of the group, and i had my research with me which made it easier to write the script for my video on analysis for chosen campaign.
The difficult thing about this task was that the time limit was short which prevented me from making the scipt in more detail and making it look professional. After I finished the scipt Mrs Saroya recorded our analysis and my task now is to edit it and turn it into an actual film/ news analysis
Wednesday 12th Jan 2011 - 12/1/2011
Lesson 6
In this lesson 2 of our group members - Sajan and Ryan were absent so it was just me and Chelsea. During this lesson we were instructed to create a new blog, upload photos and research and write diary entries onto blogger. As I already set up my blog and the pages on research, all there was left for me to do was upload the photos of our mindmap and to ensure diary entries were up to date.
We had some problems with the computers and the blogger website did not work resulting in consuming our time. After a while the problem was soleved and I started to get on with the instructed tasks. Once I finished the work I tried to edit the footage on my chosen campaign on Windows Media MovieMaker but I came across technical difficulties which prevented me from editing the clips!
Monday 17th jan period 4 - campaign - technical difficulties - figured out Zamzar
Wed 19 jan period 5 - editing on the mac - kelloggs special k
Thursday 10th Feb periods 2-5 - finished writing storyboard shots, me and ryan went around the school and took photos of all the things that are relative to each line of our poem.... formatted all the photos into a powerpoint presentation
Monday 24th January 2011.
Today Me and Chelsea were in the Media Suit to finish of editing our research campaign videos and finalise it. Editing the video was a challenging job as I have never used IMOVIE before, but it was all worth it as I learnt how to work on a new software and it was really useful and enjoyable!
Wednesday 26 th January 2011.
In this hour we were all given a task to do in which we each had to fill out a table comparing the different types of campaigns. This task was quite comfortable to do because, we have already completed our research before , which made it was easy to relate that back to the task when we were comparing the different types of campaigns
Monday 31st January: Target audience discussion and drafting of poems

CAMPAIGN WEEK
This week was indeed a hectic one as this week we promoted are campaign extensively in various aspects. We all attended individual year group assembles and we promoted our campaign by showing them a powerpoint presentation and displaying our campaign video. I did the year 10, 7, 8 aseemblies with parts of my group and it was really enjoyable as I felt confident talking to a huge number of people and promoting our campaign. Also everyone enjoyed the video as they found it entertaining becasue when asked some people for feedback they said that the video display was much better than reading of a powerpoint or listening to a long speech!
The next thing that Me, Chelsea, Ryan and Mrs Saroya conducted the YEAR 8 INTERFORM during lunchtime and managing this event was very fun. Throughout the interform students were quizzed on the environment and pupils were awarded points/dream points for answering the questions correctly. I was the score keeper and I had to keep a track of the points, this was a task that I had to concentrate really hard becasue at times everyone was shouting things and it was hard for me to listen to their sores!
Finally we did our campaign stall during breaktime in the concourse. Our display board showed stats and facts on the environment, the campaign leaflet, photos of the poem and our campaign powerpoint presentation. This was a new experience to promote our campaign in a stall format as you had to interact with lots of staff and students. It was good talking to everyone as it boosted my confidence levels and it allowed me to improvise on the spot when I was asked about other questions related to our campaign.
To conclude our campaign week, environment quizzes were sent around to tutor bases and the campaign video was sent to the year 12/13's tutors to be shown during registration. Once we got all the answers from everyone, we then gathered the data and sent out emails recognising the winners that they will be getting "mega dreampoints"
The whole process of this campaign unit has been a fun journey to be part in and I learnt many skills from this unit. Starting with learning how to edit on the Mac IMOVIE, time management skills, developed my artistic vision while editing the campaign video to increasing confidence levels, advertising techniques etc...
After the campaign finished me and Ryan interviewd couple of teachers asking them for feedback. Unfortunately due to tecnhical difficulties we only managed to upload some of the feedback, below is our campaign feedback
